There would be a risk foreign people you meet, for they could be completely different in culture, leading to perhaps a lack of communication.. The new people also might not welcome newcomers to their land. Another risk is weather. Weather is unpredictable and changes from time to time, and weather is probably one of the most important factors of a ship voyage. It could control the ship, destroy the ship, which would lead to an expedition failure.

If I actually did run into other people, I would try to communicate with them in a friendly approach and perhaps even study them from afar to adapt to their culture and ways to get them to trust me. The other people I meet along the way could benefit the voyage with their knowledge or even supply of resources. I would avoid conflict and try to build healthy relationships with them.
